Karlovac County
In the very heart of Croatia lies Karlovac County.
Many picturesque towns, castles, and cities such as Ozalj, Slunj, Duga Resa, and Ogulin contribute to the rich historical and cultural heritage of this region. It is adorned by the green river beauties of Kupa, Korana, Mrežnica, and Dobra. A favored attraction is the fairytale-like watermill settlement of Rastoke, and the area is also known for its delicious traditional dishes. Here, time does not affect the magical atmosphere of our waters… snow, heat, or rain, all are our friends. Come anytime and find yourself for the future.
Karlovac is designed and built with the measure of a human: in the green valleys of four rivers, beneath the Old Town of Dubovac, in centuries-old parks and promenades, cycling paths, and within the tradition of culture, sports, craftsmanship, and trade. Inevitably, with such parameters, Karlovac presents a European formula for pleasant living and business investment. Karlovac is unique in its business and development opportunities. Positioned at the crossroads of the most important Croatian and European highways and in close proximity to two neighboring countries, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Karlovac has significant potential. Business zones have been established around the traffic hubs on the edge of the city, while the city center remains preserved for investments in a wide range of tourism-related services, residential, and sports and recreational development opportunities.
The area of Duga Resa, Barilović, Bosiljevo, Generalski Stol, and Netretić is a region of picturesque hills washed by the crystal-clear waters of four Karlovac river beauties. Duga Resa emerges from the bosom of the Mrežnica, Barilović rises along the banks of the Korana, Bosiljevo embraces the valley of the Kupa, Generalski Stol is strengthened by the Mrežnica and Dobra, while Netretić is gifted by the Kupa and Dobra. These four rivers in the heart of Croatia, at the crossroads of historical and modern roads leading to the Adriatic Sea, create a perfect setting for an active life.
Cultural Heritage
The Plitvice Valleys are the northern gateway to the National Park “Plitvice Lakes.” The area around the Korana River, flowing from the Plitvice region, is rich in natural beauty and cultural-historical landmarks. Be its guest for at least a day. Hospitable hosts offer a variety of accommodation options, traditional local products from family farms, such as Škripavac cheese from Rakovica, original Lika songs, and exciting adventures. It’s time for you to see it for yourself.
The Ogulin region, with its mountains, rivers, and lakes, rightfully earns the title of a fairytale land. This homeland inspired one of the greatest fairy tale writers, Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. In the courtyard of the old town of Ogulin (Frankopan Castle), Ivana’s House of Fairy Tales preserves the memory of this famous resident and her universally translated “Tales from Long Ago.”
